Network Engineer
Job Description: Worknet is seeking a Network Engineer to become a member of the Worknet engineering team, which provides consulting services and infrastructure management for its many customers in the Chicago area, including those hosted in Worknet's data centers. As a Worknet Network Engineer, you will be given the opportunity to design and implement technical solutions, to interact with a variety of customers on a daily basis, and to evaluate and learn new technologies while acting as an expert in your area of specialization. In addition to this area of expertise, you must have a basic understanding of network design, server installation and configuration, desktop support, and Internet applications such as email. You must be willing to travel throughout the Chicago area to work at customer sites. Assigned tasks will include large projects that require long-term focus as well as ongoing and one-time support opportunities.
Required Educational Qualifications: Bachelors of Arts Degree Strongly preferred MUST either have or be pursuing a CCIE certification
Required Experience and Skills:
- 5-7 years of experience in designing, installing, and supporting some or all of the following: routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs (Cisco experience preferred)
- TCP/IP design and troubleshooting
- Linux and/or Unix
- Microsoft Windows products such as: Server 2003 with Active Directory, Windows XP Professional, Microsoft Exchange 2003, and Micorosoft SQL Server 2000/2005
- Citrix Presentation Server
- Clustering, SAN, and backup technologies
- Computer Telephony/Voice over IP (this skill is not as critical)
Preferred Experience and Skills: At the current time, Worknet is especially interested in hiring an engineer with exceptionally high skills in the area of network infrastructure. This includes installing, configuring, and supporting Cisco routers (all models), Layer 3 switches (IOS and CatOS), VPN concentrators, and PIX/ASA firewalls. Familiarity with other products such as WLAN Controllers and access points, load-balancers, and Cisco Secure ACS servers is good to have as well. The ability to design and maintain a complex WAN/LAN/WLAN environment is a must, as is the ability to use various network management tools such as syslog, DNS, monitoring applications, bandwidth monitors, and sniffers. Familiarity with Linux and experience working in a large Data Center environment are also recommended. The candidate would preferably have a CCIE certification or at a minimum have passed the CCIE written exam.
